Richard H. Speeter

Dick has been a member of the Speeter & Johnson firm since 1970. He practices primarily in the areas of business and transaction law, real estate law and estate planning and administration.

Business Law

With 40+ years of experience, Dick has incorporated and organized hundreds of business entities. He has represented individuals and businesses in most aspects of governance, commercial issues and owner relations, including:

  • Formation and business planning
  • Commercial contracts
  • Business and corporate transactions
  • Mergers, acquisitions and divestitures
  • Buy/sell agreements, financing and loan agreements
  • Confidentiality and non-competition agreements
  • Employee/employer relations
  • Tax and succession planning

Dick’s clients represent a cross-section of businesses and industries throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. During his career Dick has served in many leadership, office and board capacities of corporations and limited liability companies.

Real Estate Law

Dick works closely with property owners and renters in the areas of real estate purchase and sale, title, survey and environmental issues, real estate finance and commercial leases. He assists clients with drafting proper documentation ranging from small to large scale projects, both residential and commercial.

Estate Planning and Administration

Dick assists individuals and families with drafting wills, health care directives and powers of attorney, trust considerations, wealth transfer techniques, estate and gift tax issues, disability planning and elder law matters. He administers estates (probate) and trusts. He has found that his experience in business and real estate law is significant in developing overall estate, business and succession plans.

Background

Dick received his degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1970. He is licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota and is also admitted in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. He is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association and the Real Property Law and Probate/Trust Law sections of the Bar.

While some of his clients are well-recognized business leaders and industry names in the Twin Cities area, Dick also enjoys representing individuals, families and small business owners in their personal and business needs. He highly values the many relationships and friendships developed over the years with his clients.

Dick has worked closely and effectively with numerous counsel, both local and national.  For more than 30 years he has received the AV® Preeminent™ rating established by Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings, which is the highest possible professional rating given by a lawyer’s peers.

Dick is an avid sports enthusiast who found his greatest satisfaction in coaching his two children.  Dick has a passion for R&R and R&B music from the 50’s and 60’s.  He has a ridiculously large collection of 45 rpm records from that era.

Dick is the current President of the parish council at the Church of St. George in Long Lake, Minnesota and was a Trustee of that parish for 14 years. He is also a past President and Board member and current Trustee of the Downtown Minneapolis Serra Club.
